Two get three-month jail terms for N250,000 mobile phone theft

Sango-Ota(Ogun): On Tuesday, an Ota Magistrates Court in Ogun sentenced Abdulazeez Junior, 26, and Adebayo Aferz, 25, to three months imprisonment for stealing a Samsung Android phone valued at N250,000.

In her judgment, the Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, however, gave the convicts an option of a fine of N20,000 each.

Fadairo said that the prosecution counsel had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the convicts were guilty of the charge preferred against them.

The duo, whose addresses were not provided, had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and unlawful possession of hemp.

The Prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the convicts committed the offences on June 17 at about 11.30 p.m. at Joju bus stop, Ota.

Adaraloye said that the convicts stole a Samsung Android phone valued at N250,000  belonging to the complainant, Ewe Enahoro.

He said that Afeez received the stolen mobile phone from Junior, knowing the item had been stolen.

The prosecutor added that the police also found suspected hemp with them in the process of arresting the convicts.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 427, 430(1) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.
