Rivers Wins NLNG Science Quiz 2025

Port Harcourt: The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has successfully concluded the 2025 science quiz competition, rekindling the interest of secondary school students in science across Rivers.

The competition, themed; ‘Renewable Energy Solutions,’ featured a vibrant intellectual contest among some of the brightest science students in the state.

This development was announced in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday, Thursday, June 26, by NLNG’s Manager, Corporate Communication and Public Affairs, Mrs Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku.

According to Palmer-Ikuku, Community Secondary School, Igbo-Etche, emerged as the winner of the grand finale, which featured eight secondary schools.

The students competed in a three-phase contest comprising the Championship, Science Project Exhibition, and Grand Finale.

In the Science Project Exhibition category, Comprehensive Secondary School, Oginigba, secured first place, while Bonny National Grammar School (Senior) finished as runner-up. Community Secondary School, Kira Tai, came in fourth.

In the Championship category, Birabi Memorial Grammar School, Bori, clinched first position, Niger Delta Science School, Obio/Akpor, took second place, and Government Secondary School, Abua, came third.

Speaking at the finale, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Mrs Sophia Horsfall, highlighted the company’s commitment to advancing a greener energy future.

She explained that the competition was designed to prepare students for a future shaped by scientific and technological advancements.

According to Horsfall, the global transition towards cleaner and greener energy sources requires a deeper understanding of the energy sector.

“NLNG is proud to be leading this shift by exporting LNG, a cleaner fossil fuel, and supplying LPG to Nigerian homes.

“Through this quiz competition, we are investing in education and inspiring the scientists, engineers, and innovators of tomorrow,” she said.

She underscored the critical role of science in driving societal progress, noting the competition’s positive impact on more than 200 public schools since its inception.

“Science is the heartbeat of progress, and that is why NLNG supports platforms like this where young minds can discover their potential when allowed to shine,” she said.
