Maiduguri: The North East Development Commission (NEDC) on Friday donated food items, building materials, and other relief materials to flood victims in Chibok and Damboa Local Government Areas of Borno.
Mr Muhammad Umar, the NEDC’s state Coordinator, who made the presentation in Maiduguri, said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the effects of the recent flood disaster in the areas.
“Each community of Yamtake, Izge, Bita, Ngoshe, and Kirawa that witnessed Boko Haram attacks recently will receive 200 bags of rice, 200 cartons of spaghetti, 100 gallons of vegetable oil, and 30 bags of sugar,” Umar said.
The state coordinator also announced additional donations of 200 bundles of roofing sheets, 2,000 ceiling boards, 2,000 cartons of nails, 500 bags of cement, 250 pieces of blankets, and 200 mats for distribution to displaced persons from the Ashigashiya community in Gwoza.
Umar further announced the donation of 100 pieces of wrappers, 100 pieces of children’s wear, 200 pieces of mats, and 100 pieces of mosquito nets to the victims of the flood disaster in Gwoza.
Similarly, the state coordinator made another presentation to the victims of the flood disaster in Chibok and Damboa.
He announced the donations of 1,500 bags of rice, 500 bags of sugar, 1,500 cartons of spaghetti and macaroni, and 1,500 gallons of vegetable oil to the flood victims in Chibok and Damboa.
“Others include 2,000 pieces of children’s wear, 2,000 men’s wear, 2,000 pieces of women’s wear, 2,000 pieces of blankets, and 2,000 pieces of branded mats.
“200 bundles of roofing sheets/zinc, 2000 ceiling Boards, 200 cartons of nails, 500 bags of cement, 250 pieces of blankets, and 200 pieces of mats through Senator Ndume for onward distribution to Ashigashiya returnees,” Umar said.
The donations were handed over to Sen. Ali Ndume (APC Borno South), Rep Usman Jaha (APC Gwoza/Damboa/Chibok) Federal Constituency, and Abdullahi Abatcha (APC Gwoza) at the State House of Assembly for distribution to the affected communities in their constituencies.
