Ibadan: Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday in Ibadan held a strategic meeting aimed at tackling food insecurity and promoting regional development.
Briefing journalists shortly after a closed-door meeting, Abiodun underscored the importance of strengthening inter-state collaboration between Ogun and Oyo States.
He said that they centre their meeting on the urgent need to find ways to address food insecurity, promote the economy, and regional development.
Abiodun highlighted the longstanding historical and cultural ties between Oyo and Ogun states, which dated back to the era of the defunct Western region.
The Ogun State governor said that such a foundation provided a solid platform for renewed cooperation between the two states.
He said the two states were determined to work together in addressing the challenges of food production and distribution to ensure that their people have access to affordable and nutritious food.
Abiodun stated that security issues also featured prominently in their talks, saying they both agreed on enhanced cooperation within the framework of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), known as the ‘Amotekun Corps’. He commended the efforts of the WNSN in promoting peace and stability in the region.
