Abuja: The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) defeated Adamawa Spikers 2-0 in the female category of the ongoing 2025 National Division 1 and 2 volleyball league.
The match was played at the Indoor hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, on Tuesday in Abuja.
NIS girls who were determined to win the match won the first set 25-11 and 25-13 in the second set to record their third win out of five games.
Speaking after the match, Rihanna Suleiman, captain of the NIS girls, rated their performance 50 per cent.
“Our first match was a 3-0 loss. In our second match, we lost. Today, in the two matches we played, we won both. We played five. We won three. We lost two.
“I will tell my teammates to continue with this momentum to win our remaining matches. We still have six games to go,” she said.
Suleiman, who praised the organisers, said there is a lot to do to improve the standard of organisation and the standard of the tournament.
On her part, Joyce Sylvester, the captain of Adamawa Spikers, said that it was the first time Adamawa was bringing up a female team to a competition.
“We played six games. We won three and we lost three. In a competition, there must be a winner and a loser. “I hope we will do better in our next game. We are playing Federal Road Safety in our next match,” she said.
“We thank our governor for the opportunity he has given us to come and experience volleyball outside Adamawa.
“It has always been a festival, but this time around, we came out of the state to be part of the competition. We thank the governor for supporting us,” she said.
According to her, Adamawa is participating in Division 1 and Division 2. The boys are participating in Division 1 and Division 2. But the girls are participating only in Division 1.
A total of 32 clubs are participating in the competition, which consists of 10 men’s and 10 women’s clubs in Division One, while there are 12 clubs in Division Two.
The competition, which started on Aug. 12, is expected to end on Aug. 19.
