Bauchi: The Bauchi State Police Command, committed to upholding justice, has reported the arrest of 748 individuals linked with 394 criminal cases across the state.
Sani Omolori-Aliyu, the Command’s Commissioner of Police, disclosed the figures at a news conference on Thursday in Bauchi.
He said armed robbery, a serious threat to public safety, accounted for 57 cases, leading to 113 arrests, while culpable homicide, a grave crime, topped the list with 78 incidents, and 171 suspects apprehended.
Omolori-Aliyu said the arrests were recorded between January and Aug.20. Attempted culpable homicide followed with 14 cases and 24 arrests within the period under review.
Omolori-Aliyu noted that rape and indecent assault were also serious concerns, with 44 cases resulting in 72 arrests.
Cases of false pretence and cheating numbered 117, leading to 106 apprehensions. The police further recorded 20 cases of theft and other stealing-related offences, resulting in 37 arrests, while kidnapping cases stood at four, with seven suspects arrested.
“Further breakdown shows nine breaches of public peace involving 29 suspects, while grievous hurt accounted for seven cases and 16 suspects,” he said.
Omolori-Aliyu urged citizens to report any suspected criminal activity to the police promptly, emphasizing the crucial role of the public in maintaining public safety.
