Abuja, Nigeria: In a sweeping escalation of its counterterrorism efforts, the Nigerian Army has launched intensified nationwide operations that have led to the neutralisation of multiple terrorists, the rescue of kidnapped victims, and the disruption of criminal networks.
A military source disclosed that troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA ambushed terrorists at Kwanar Jollof, Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara.
The source said that nine kidnapped victims, including three women and six children, were freed during the encounter.
He added that an AK-47 rifle, 20 rounds of ammunition, motorcycles, mobile phones, and other logistics supplies were recovered following a swift exploitation of the ambush site by the troops.
The source also disclosed that troops of the 8 Division Garrison neutralised a terrorist at Gidan Garkuwa, Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto, recovering an AK-47 rifle and five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
He added that troops of 1 Brigade disrupted armed groups at Magazu, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara, seizing motorcycles and military uniforms.
According to him, these actions weakened terrorist logistics and mobility in the North West.
“In Borno, one suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorist surrendered to troops of 242 Recce Battalion, Monguno.
“The suspect, active since 2013, abandoned the group due to hardship and internal divisions.
“In Plateau, troops foiled armed robbery along the Jos–Bauchi road and repelled attempted cattle rustling in Mangu LGA, preventing further loss of lives and property.
“In Rivers and Lagos, troops uncovered illegal refining activities and intercepted suspects stealing construction materials, reinforcing the Army’s crackdown on economic sabotage and criminality across the nation,” he said.
