FIFA Sanction: Fans Rally behind Super Eagles, Urge Resilience

Lagos (Nigeria): Some Nigerian football enthusiasts have urged the Super Eagles to remain resolute as World Cup qualifying intensifies, following FIFA’s sanction against the South African Football Association (SAFA).

FIFA found SAFA guilty of breaching player eligibility rules in the Bongokuhle Mokoena case and consequently awarded points that altered the Group C standings.

The ruling has rekindled Nigeria’s qualification hopes, with fans stressing that the Eagles must now show discipline and determination in their remaining fixtures.

Football enthusiast Izegagbe Iremi described the development as a reminder that football is governed by strict regulations, not only battles fought on the pitch.

“The Eagles must take full responsibility and fight to the finish. There should be no complacency at this stage,” Iremi said on Tuesday.

He added that the sanction had handed Nigeria a lifeline that must not be wasted, urging the team to approach every remaining match as if it were a final.

“This is not a time for celebration but for serious preparation. Every point will count in this race,” he stressed.

Former Nigerian international, Azuka Izu, said the sanction should serve as motivation for the players, calling on them to display hunger and passion.

“This is another opportunity to see the Super Eagles bounce back. They must take the fight to opponents and finish the job.

“The sanction has reshuffled the group standings, giving Nigeria a fresh chance. However, the Eagles must secure maximum points and hope other results prove favourable,” Izu said.

The adjusted standings leave Nigeria with no margin for error in its quest for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
