The appointment, as stated in the letter, was effective immediately.

Oyo State was created on February 3, 1976, when the former Western State of Nigeria was divided into three states: Oyo, Ogun, and Ondo, under the regime of the late General Murtala Mohammed.
Initially, the state included what is now Osun State, which was carved out in 1991.
