Abuja, Nigeria: President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles following their emphatic 4–0 victory over the Benin Republic, praising the team’s determination and rekindling of national hope for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup

‎Victor Osimhen netted a stunning hat-trick as Nigeria cruised to victory in Uyo, booking a spot in the African playoffs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

‎‎In a statement by his spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, Tinubu hailed the Super Eagles for reigniting hope among millions of football-loving Nigerians for the World Cup.

‎NAN reports that despite the emphatic win, Nigeria narrowly missed out on automatic qualification as South Africa topped Group C with a 3–0 victory over Rwanda in Johannesburg.

‎The Super Eagles now face the CAF playoffs, joining the three best second-placed teams across the nine qualifying groups.

‎‎The playoffs will feature a semifinal-final format, with winners advancing to a FIFA interconfederation playoff for a potential tenth African World Cup spot.

‎‎The decisive second round of CAF qualifying will take place in Morocco from Nov. 10 to 18.
