OPAY Commits ₦60m in Scholarships for 20 LASU Students

Lagos, Nigeria: In a significant boost to education and youth empowerment, OPAY Digital Services Ltd. has launched a ₦60 million scholarship programme to support 20 students at Lagos State University (LASU).

The company disclosed this in a statement shared via the university’s official social media platforms on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to the statement, the sponsorship is under the auspices of LASU-SDG, in collaboration with the Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA).

It said the official signing ceremony took place on Monday, October 13, at the Senate Chamber, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

“The 10-year sponsorship, sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), underscores Opay’s dedication to education, innovation and youth development in Nigeria,” the statement read.

The Director of LASU-SDG, Prof. Tayo Ajayi, highlighted the role of the university’s Centre for the Actualisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (LASU-SDG) in facilitating the partnership.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, expressed appreciation to the Opay team for the gesture.

She further provided an overview of the scholarship initiative, emphasising its significance in supporting 20 deserving students.

She described the programme as a gesture of goodwill and corporate social responsibility by a fintech company.

She said it was aimed at fostering academic excellence and alleviating the financial challenges faced by students.
