Abuja: In a renewed push for public safety, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police have deepened their partnership to combat crime across the Federal Capital Territory.

The commitment was reinforced during a courtesy visit by the newly deployed Dantawaye Miller, FCT Commissioner of Police, to Dr Olusola Odumosu, NSCDC FCT Commandant in Abuja.

Odumosu said that since the FCT seemed relatively peaceful at the moment, there was a need to ensure appropriate security measures are in place to sustain the current level of peace.

He promised the newly deployed CP of the command’s cooperation in every area of securing the FCT.

“We must continue to forge ahead and come to a round table to ensure that we move FCT to another level, where people can go about their normal businesses without fear of any criminal attack,” the commandant said.

According to him, the visit symbolises the continuity of an already existing relationship between the two security agencies.

“The best way forward in ensuring heightened security in the FCT is robust synergy and collaboration between security agencies.

“Seeing you today has given me hope and confidence that the days of unhealthy rivalry are over, and a more united front against criminals in the FCT is in place.

“We are all the same, so whether at the upper or lower echelon, we should see each other as one because the only difference between us is the uniform we put on.

“So, if we can begin to see each other from that point of view, I want to believe that we will have a seamless operation and success against these criminals,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the CP reiterated that security was an enormous task and advocated for multi-agency collaboration to attain positive results.

Miller appealed for flawless cooperation in terms of intelligence gathering and sharing, pledging absolute commitment to ensure that the synergy continues to yield successes.

” There is a need for enhanced collaboration between both organisations to forge a way forward to ensure proper protection of the territory,” Miller said.

The Police boss emphasised that security is a collective responsibility, underscoring the importance of eradicating inter-agency rivalry, and noted that security organisations should complement each other.

The CP emphasised the need to maintain the current calmness in the metropolis by developing new strategies to combat crimes in the FCT.
