Damaturu (Nigeria): Yobe State Government has recruited 948 primary school teachers as part of efforts to fill the workforce gap in basic education.

Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, Gov Mai Mala Buni’s Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, issued this statement in Damaturu on Sunday.

He said that the recruitment was revealed by the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umaru Babayo, after he met with Buni on Sunday.

Mohammed said that most of the recruits were volunteer teachers working in various schools across the state without formal engagement by the state government.

The statement quoted Babayo as saying,  “The board is organising workshops for the recruits to acquire additional skills on teaching for effective and efficient dissemination of knowledge to the pupils”.

He said the chairman charged the new teachers to be dedicated to their duties to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government.

“The chairman assured that the board would intensify inspection to ensure productivity and for the government to have value for its money,” Mohammed said.

The aide said that Buni charged the board to ensure that only those qualified for the job were allowed to serve.

“The board should ensure training of the new teachers to get the best out of them.

“Government would continue to support the board to promote efficiency and productivity for the state to achieve its set goals of taking education to greater heights,” Buni stated.
