Lagos: The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday stated that it has apprehended a 25-year-old ex-convict, along with two other suspects, for various offences committed in different parts of the state.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed this in a statement to reporters in Lagos.

She said that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended the suspects.

Adebisi said that the ex-convict was apprehended five days after his release from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

“The suspect, who was recently released from prison, was apprehended around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Oshodi Market, following his suspicious movements.

“He was found with N80,000 and an Infinix Note 40 Pro phone, both traced to a burglary he allegedly committed in Opebi, where he stole N200,000 and the device from a sleeping trader.

“Clothes and shoes he bought with part of the stolen money were also recovered,” she said.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson stated that in a separate operation, the RRS also apprehended two suspected pickpockets, aged 21 and 27, for attempting to steal mobile phones from commuters in different parts of the state.

“The suspects, who specialise in pickpocketing during rush hours in crowded areas, were caught before they could flee with their loot.

“Stolen items recovered during the operation have been returned to their rightful owners,” she said.

According to her, all three suspects are currently detained at the RRS headquarters, and they will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The PRO said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.

“CP Jimoh, while commending the officers, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to an intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention.

“CP assured residents that the command remains steadfast in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and maintain public safety,” she said.
