Ibadan: The police on Friday charged a 31-year-old man, Yemi Adedayo, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, for allegedly stealing 200 turkeys valued at seven million naira.
Adedayo, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on two counts of causing malicious damage and theft.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Cpl. David Adepoju told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 29, at about 8:30 p.m., in the Idi-Ayunre area of Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendant stole 200 turkeys from a poultry belonging to a complainant, one Olufiseyi Ajayi.
Adepoju alleged that the defendant also damaged the complainant’s poultry net, worth N150,000, in an attempt to gain entrance and steal the birds.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390(9) and 451 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Kausarat Ayofe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Jan.19, 2026, for a hearing.
