Kwara Clinches Tinubu Youth Football Trophy in National Showdown

Katsina: Kwara’s Under-18 team has emerged victorious in the Tinubu Youths Football Tournament, clinching the coveted trophy after a spirited performance.

The win marks a significant milestone for the team and highlights the growing momentum behind youth sports development in the region.

The Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria competition began on Oct. 26. The final match ended goalless in regular time before penalties decided the contest.

Both sides thrilled fans at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium with excellent football and energetic displays.

Strong defending from both teams ensured no goals were scored, pushing the final to a tense shootout.

Katsina’s outgoing Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Aliyu Lawal-Zakari, presented the trophy and gold medals to the Kwara team.

Joined by YSFON leaders, he praised all teams for their commitment and resilience throughout the tournament.

Bauchi received silver medals, while hosts Katsina claimed bronze after beating Sokoto by one goal.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 15 states took part in the tournament.

They include Ondo, Kaduna, Bauchi, Kwara, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Gombe, Sokoto, Yobe, Niger, Kogi, the FCT, and Katsina.
