Lagos: Two Nigerian entrepreneurs, Tosin Eniolorunda and Felix Ike, whose Fintech company Moniepoint Inc. was named among the 100 Most Influential Companies of 2025, have attributed their rise to the quality of talent nurtured by Nigeria’s universities.
Speaking at a news conference on Saturday, Moniepoint CEO Tosin Eniolorunda described their achievement as a validation of home-grown excellence.
“Unlike many tech founders who seek academic validation abroad, Felix Ike and I are products of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Though locally rooted, we are globally competitive. Our success highlights a growing trend of homegrown excellence driving Africa’s digital economy,” he said.
A Mechanical Engineering graduate of OAU, Eniolorunda, noted that his immersion in Nigeria’s banking ecosystem led to pioneering innovations, including instant Point-of-Sales transfers and the country’s first virtual account services.
He added that Moniepoint’s “all-in-one” ecosystem — integrating payments, banking, and credit — has bridged critical infrastructure gaps for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Since its inception in 2015, Moniepoint has established both physical and digital presence across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, a feat Eniolorunda said demonstrates that Nigerian universities can produce leaders capable of building world-class technology.
Chief Technical Officer Felix Ike, a first-class Computer Science graduate from UNILAG, said he architected the robust infrastructure that now serves over 10 million businesses and individuals.
He highlighted Moniepoint’s recognition as one of the 100 Most Influential Companies of 2025 and its ranking by the Financial Times as one of Africa’s fastest-growing companies for three consecutive years.
“By leveraging local insights and Nigerian-trained technical expertise, we have shown that the next frontier of global finance is being built right here in Nigeria,” Ike said.
