Katsina: Gov. Dikko Radda says the Katsina State Government has so far paid a total of N45.8 billion in life and death entitlements to 14,560 beneficiaries since its inception.
The amount covered State, Local Government, and Local Education Authority (LEA) workers.
The governor made the disclosure on Thursday in Katsina, at the flag-off of the ‘Last Payment of N21 billion Accrued Liability of Life and Death Gratuities’ up to October, 2025.
“All in all, the sum of N45.8 billion was approved and released for payment to 14,560 beneficiaries from the State, LGs and Local Education Authorities (LEAs),” he said.
Radda said the present administration had taken a step towards reforming the state’s pension administration by signing the new contributory pension law, 2025, into law.
“This reform aligned with global best practices, designed to streamline pension management, eliminate administrative bottlenecks, ensure prompt payment of gratuities and pensions, and restore public confidence in the system.
“Under the new arrangement, Katsina State Pension Bureau will oversee the Contributory Pension Scheme, while the old pension will continue to operate under the management of Katsina State and Local Governments Pension Transition Board until all existing beneficiaries exit the system,” he said.
Radda assured that the sacrifice of workers would never be forgotten, and their entitlements must never be delayed.
“As a government, our vision is clear – to build a pension system that is effective, transparent, accountable and responsive to the needs of retirees. We will never be part of any arrangement that is against the interests of the people,” he assured.
Earlier, the State Head of Service, Alhaji Falalu Bawale, commended the government for releasing such a large amount to settle accrued liabilities for those who retired and those who died while in active service up to October, 2025.
He said the present administration would continue to accord priority to the civil service as a partner in implementing policies and programmes for the people.
Also, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Hussani Hamisu, commended the present administration in the state for releasing what he described as a substantial amount to the retirees.
He prayed to Allah to continue to bless the state with peace and security.
