Tinubu Charges New FCC Leadership to Uphold Equity in Appointments

Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has tasked the newly inaugurated chairman and commissioners of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) to uphold equity, diligence, and patriotism in national appointments, stressing the need for fairness and integrity in the commission’s mandate.Individual appointments.

After the president administered the oath of office to the FCC leadership at the State House, Abuja, he gave the charge.

Tinubu called the commission central to Nigeria’s unity and stability and urged its leadership to reflect the country’s diversity and complexity.

He said the FCC’s core mandate is to promote equity in public appointments and to ensure that every part of the country feels included.

“What you represent here today is the conscience of our nation.

“Your assignment is to promote and stabilise our nation’s conscience,” the president said.

He urged the commissioners to be fair, diligent, committed, and patriotic in carrying out their responsibilities to the nation.

Tinubu affirmed that Nigeria has the human resources, capacity, and divine endowment needed to build a strong and prosperous nation.

He urged the commissioners to view their appointment as a call to service, not privilege.

“We have the human resources, the ability, the capacity, and the endowment from God to build our country,” he said.

The president urged them to reflect constantly on how they contribute to national development, unity, and stability.

Quoting former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, Tinubu encouraged the commissioners to focus on their contributions to Nigeria.

He said, “What can you do for this country to make it greater now that you have been inaugurated?”

Tinubu said the FCC’s success in promoting inclusiveness and fairness rests squarely on the conduct of its leadership.

On behalf of the commission, Chairman Hon. Ayo Omidiran assured Nigerians that equity and inclusiveness would guide FCC operations.

She expressed confidence that by the administration’s end, every Nigerian would feel a sense of ownership.

Omidiran noted that Nigeria’s abundant resources and opportunities must be distributed equitably across all regions.

She said the Federal Character Commission was established by Nigerians dedicated to ensuring that the entire federation equitably benefits from all opportunities.

She pledged that the commission would leverage Nigeria’s diversity as a source of strength while promoting balanced representation in public institutions.

The FCC chairman assured that the commission would operate under the president’s guidance to strengthen national unity and public confidence.

Omidiran stated that by the end of this tenure, every Nigerian should feel a sense of ownership of the country.

She expressed optimism that commitment and dedication would ensure the commission fulfills its mandate.
