Abuja: The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) forecasts dust haze nationwide from Wednesday to Friday.
NiMet’s forecast, issued Tuesday in Abuja, expects moderate dust haze in the northern region on Wednesday, with visibility between two and five kilometres.
It anticipated localised visibility of less than or equal to 1,000 metres over parts of Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa states throughout the forecast period.
NiMet also forecast moderate dust haze over the North-Central region, including Benue, Kogi, and Plateau, throughout the period.
It predicted sunny skies with a few patches of cloud over the southern region, with slim prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.
According to the agency, moderate dust haze is expected over the northern and North-Central regions on Thursday throughout the forecast period.
It also predicted sunny skies with scattered clouds over the southern region, with slim chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over Ondo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, and Edo states later in the day.
NiMet forecasts a slight dust haze over the northern region on Friday.
It said moderate dust haze is anticipated over the North-Central region, including Benue, Kogi, and Plateau states, throughout the period.
The agency further predicted sunny skies with scattered clouds over the southern region, with slim chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over Lagos, Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa states later in the day.
NiMet urgently warns that dust particles will linger in the air, posing health risks, and advises the public to act immediately to protect themselves.
People with asthma and other respiratory conditions must take immediate precautions during hazardous weather.
Motorists are strongly urged to exercise extreme caution during rainfall, and airline operators must urgently seek airport-specific updates from NiMet for safe planning.
