Dust Haze Looms: NiMet Predicts 3 Days of Sunshine Across Nigeria

Abuja:  TheNigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a spell of dust haze and sunshine across the country from Sunday through Tuesday, urging Nigerians to brace for reduced visibility and dry conditions as the weather pattern sweeps nationwide.

‎NiMet’s outlook released Saturday in Abuja expects a slight dust haze over Borno, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara and Sokoto on Sunday.

‎In contrast, the remaining northern states will experience predominantly sunny conditions for the period.

‎The central region is forecast to have sunny skies with only a few cloud patches throughout the period.

‎For the southern region, sunny skies with scattered cloud patches are anticipated during the forecast period.

‎It predicted isolated thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Abia, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States later in the day.

‎According to the forecast, moderate dust haze with visibility values between 2km and 5km is anticipated over parts of Kano, Katsina, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Jigawa and Borno States on Monday.

‎Meanwhile, other northern parts will be sunny and hazy throughout the forecast period.

‎ In the central region, sunny skies with a few cloud patches persist during the forecast period.

‎Cloudy skies with sunny intervals are anticipated in the southern region during morning hours. Later, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected in Bayelsa, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Rivers, and Cross River.

‎The agency predicted a slight dust haze over the North on Tuesday throughout the forecast period.

‎It anticipated sunny skies in the central region, with a few patches of clouds throughout the forecast period.

‎In the morning, the southern region will have cloudy skies with sunny intervals.

‎It predicted isolated thunderstorms with light rains later in the day for Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers.

‎”Driving in the rain should be done with caution. Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective operational planning.

‎NiMet advises residents to stay informed through its weather updates.

‎”People with Asthmatic health condition and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather conditions,” it said.
