Gombe — Anambra indigene, Mr Edwin Chukwujekwu, on Friday emerged as Assistant Secretary of the APC Bolari East Ward in Gombe Local Government Area, breaking barriers of regional divides and reflecting the party’s message of national unity.
Chukwujekwu, along with other ward executives, was elected by consensus at the APC congress. Speaking after his election, he described it as proof of the party’s democratic maturity and inclusiveness.
“My election reflects the nationality of the party. I advise my Igbo kinsmen to play along with the APC. We are not excluded; we are fully accommodated,” he said.
He noted that his victory serves as inspiration for non‑indigenes in Gombe, adding that the APC has demonstrated openness to all Nigerians. “I have been here for four years, and now I am elected to the ward executive. This shows inclusivity,” he added.
Chukwujekwu commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his inclusive governance, citing the appointment of an Igbo man as Special Assistant on Inter‑Community Affairs as further evidence of integration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the list of ward executives from the 10 wards in Gombe LGA was presented to the Chairman of the Ward and Local Government Congress Committee for the state, Dr Danjuma Dabo.
At the Gombe Local Government Secretariat, Dabo confirmed that the consensus election was in line with the APC Constitution. He praised the peace and understanding that characterised the exercise, urging stakeholders to sustain the unity demonstrated during the congresses.
He stressed that unity remains key to strengthening the party and achieving success in 2027.
