Abuja, President Bola Tinubu has approved the renewal of Prof. Ayo Omotayo’s appointment as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau.
With this renewal, Omotayo is set to lead Nigeria’s foremost policy think tank for a final term of four years.
Announcing the development on Wednesday in Abuja, Presidential Spokesperson Mr Bayo Onanuga issued a statement to confirm the renewal.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the President’s decision reflects confidence in Omotayo’s leadership and contributions to strategic policy development.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari initially appointed Omotayo in November 2021.
Following Senate confirmation in February 2022, Omotayo began his stewardship of the institute.
Known for his extensive academic and administrative experience, Omotayo is a Professor of Environmental Sustainability.
His studies at the University of Ibadan, completed between 1980 and 1990, earned him a PhD in Geography.
Omotayo launched his teaching career at Lagos State University in 1985.
In 1992, at the age of 30, he became a Senior Lecturer, marking a rapid rise in academia.
He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, a role held from 2012 to 2017.
Prior to his 2021 appointment, Omotayo served as the Director of the Centre for Planning at Lagos State University.
The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies plays a central role in training senior public officials and shaping national policy discourse.
