Lokoja: Tragedy struck at Kogi State Polytechnic when Mr Anslem Ojodomo, a respected lecturer in the Department of Public Administration, suddenly collapsed and died while delivering a lecture to his students.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Salihu Avidime, confirmed the incident in a statement signed by Mr John Onimisi, Ag. Co-ordinator, Directorate of Public Relations in the institution, on Friday.

This tragic incident follows closely on the heels of another loss, as just a month earlier, Dr Barnabas Akuba, another lecturer, passed away shortly after completing his PhD program.

Ojodomo’s death has sparked concern and fear among staff and students, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the sudden death.

The rector, in the statement, extended condolences to the community and family of the late Ojodomo, stating that the news was a personal shock.

Avidime recalled meeting with Ojodomo earlier that day, when they exchanged pleasantries and shook hands.

The rector described the late lecturer as a dedicated staff member, committed to excellence, who distinguished himself as a student and lecturer.

The Polytechnic community notes the loss of a colleague who demonstrated scholarship, service, and professional character.

Ojodomo’s contributions as Deputy Dean, Students Services, and lecturer are acknowledged as significant within the institution, Avidime said.

Meanwhile, some students who witnessed the incident told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on condition of anonymity that Ojodomo collapsed while addressing them.

The students said that he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

They said the polytechnic community had been left in a state of uncertainty after two lecturers were lost in quick succession.

Anselm Victory Ojodomo was a dedicated lecturer with a Master’s degree from Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, where he recently defended his PhD proposal.

He joined Kogi State Polytechnic in 2021 and served in several committees.

The Polytechnic community expressed condolences to his family and the people of Igalamela/Odolu, offering wishes for peace.
