Ademola Lookman‘s 31st-minute goal sent Atletico Madrid past Barcelona and into the Champions League semi-finals.
Atletico reached the semi-finals for the first time since the 2016/2017 season after edging Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate.
Simeone’s men entered the second leg with a 2-0 lead. However, Barcelona erased the advantage within 25 minutes thanks to goals from Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres.
Atletico responded with a fine team move, allowing Lookman to finish calmly and restore their lead. Despite Barcelona’s early surge, the hosts maintained their composure.
Even after introducing Marcus Rashford and Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona showed little attacking threat in the second half.
Eric Garcia’s late sending-off for fouling Alexander Sorloth as the last defender ended Barcelona’s comeback hopes.
Atletico will now face either Arsenal or Sporting in the semi-finals, with the first legs scheduled for April 28 or 29.
