Asaba: Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori described the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries as a pivotal event, lauding President Bola Tinubu’s commanding victory as proof of the APC’s surging influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the remark while addressing newsmen on Saturday in Asaba after the declaration of President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the Presidential Primary Elections in Delta.
He highlighted that President Tinubu securing 407,646 votes exclusively from registered APC members signalled strong prospects for the party in the general elections.
Oborevwori expressed gratitude for robust support for the president, noting that internal democracy underpins electoral success.
He stressed that Tinubu’s mandate for direct primaries was pivotal to accurately measuring the party’s actual strength ahead of the general elections.
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHAs) played a crucial role in mobilising registered party members to participate in the primaries.
“Our terrain, particularly in the riverine area, is very difficult to access, but our people mobilised to ensure they voted.
These votes were gathered from 270 wards statewide; we successfully mobilised a total of 407,646 votes for President Bola Tinubu,” he said.
He stated that Tinubu’s widespread acceptance demonstrated the APC’s readiness for the 2027 elections.
He affirmed that due process guided the primaries, stating the outcome would have changed if the party had imposed candidates.
He explained that President Tinubu insisted on a direct primary even if any aspirant was returned unopposed.
“The results showed that those who cast their votes for us are sure votes for 2027, but we have to do more to campaign and mobilise more votes for our party.
He outlined that, as preparations continue for 2027, the government’s investment in infrastructure is already evident and is being recognised positively by the people, reflecting a key achievement supporting the party’s prospective victory.
