Lagos: The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos Command, has arrested suspected cable vandals and other criminal suspects, including deserters from the Togolese Army.
The suspects were paraded on Monday at the command headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, following intelligence-led operations and community collaboration.
NSCDC Public Relations Officer, SC Oluwaseun Abolurin, said two suspects were caught on Saturday vandalising armoured cables worth millions of naira at Okun Ajah. He noted that intelligence from residents and alerts from Proton Security Limited enabled swift intervention. Two accomplices escaped but remained wanted.
“The two suspects who are at large can only run, but they cannot hide forever,” Abolurin declared.
He stressed that community partnerships remain crucial in tackling infrastructure theft, adding that the command has strengthened ties with traditional rulers, youth groups, market associations, and private security firms across Lagos.
Multiple Arrests Across Lagos
Transformer Cable Theft: Another suspect was arrested in Shogunle, Oshodi, over transformer cable vandalism. Investigations are ongoing.
Battery Theft: Operatives also nabbed suspects accused of stealing eight lithium batteries from Orchid Road, Lekki, on June 15.
Repeat Offenders: A 44-year-old suspect is already facing prosecution in earlier cable vandalism cases.
Abolurin assured that all suspects would face diligent prosecution to secure convictions.
Togolese Army Deserters
In a separate operation, NSCDC operatives apprehended two deserters from the Togolese Army. Abolurin confirmed they would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

The command urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence, stressing that public cooperation is vital in safeguarding critical infrastructure.
