Lagos: The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 150 suspects and recovered firearms, unregistered motorcycles, suspected stolen items and illicit drugs during a major security operation targeting criminal hideouts across parts of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the intelligence-led operation, codenamed “Operation KO S’AYE”, was launched following credible security reports.
Adebisi said the raid commenced at about 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, with a joint team of officers drawn from various formations of the command.
According to her, the operatives raided criminal hideouts at Boolar, Okofilling Bus Stop, Igando, and other identified black spots within the Area M, Idimu axis.
She said the operation was aimed at dismantling criminal networks, flushing out hoodlums and restoring public confidence in communities affected by criminal activities.
Adebisi said 150 suspects were arrested during the operation, while several items believed to be linked to criminal activities were recovered.
The exhibits recovered included 100 unregistered motorcycles, 54 mobile phones, one double-barrel gun, two single-barrel guns, one locally made double-barrel short gun and two military camouflage uniforms.
She added that operatives also recovered assorted charms, six generators suspected to have been stolen, substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine their individual culpability. Those found to have committed criminal offences will be charged in court accordingly,” Adebisi said.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, commended the operatives for their professionalism, bravery and commitment during the operation.
He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to sustain Operation KO S’AYE across Lagos to deny criminal elements a safe haven and further strengthen security across the state.
Tijani also urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid the identification of criminal hideouts, arrest of suspects and prevention of crime.
