Abuja: President Bola Tinubu on Thursday described the newly remodelled Abuja City Gate as a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s unity, national pride and identity.
Represented by the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, at the inauguration of the landmark renovated by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the President said the iconic monument offers visitors their first impression of the nation’s capital and reflects the country’s character and aspirations.
“The City Gate welcomes visitors to Abuja and communicates the pride Nigerians take in their capital. With its beautiful water fountain representing the 36 states and the FCT, it symbolises our unity, diversity and shared aspirations,” he said.
Tinubu added that the remodelled gateway now ranks alongside notable public monuments in cities around the world and stands as an enduring symbol of renewal, progress and national pride.
He commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his commitment to transforming Abuja through infrastructure renewal, describing the ongoing projects as consistent with the administration’s vision of modern development and improved quality of life.
Earlier, Wike disclosed that the monument had suffered years of neglect until the First Lady drew attention to its condition and urged its rehabilitation.
Describing the project as the First Lady’s initiative, the minister said the facelift had restored the City Gate’s elegance and reinforced its status as an iconic national monument symbolising Nigeria’s unity.
