Ikeja Council Goes Digital with QR Code-Based Tax Administration

by Oluwapelumi Bolu

Lagos: Ikeja Local Government has launched a digital tax administration system with Quick Response (QR) codes for registered business premises, as part of an effort to boost revenue collection and block leakages.

Council Chairman Mr Akeem Dauda led the rollout on Friday at Lagos Computer Village, where officials began affixing unique QR codes to shops. He said the initiative is part of an automated framework to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in tax administration.

“Revenue must be accounted for to support community services and sustainable development,” Dauda said.

According to him, the QR system will simplify monitoring, enhance compliance, and ensure payments flow only through authorised government channels.

Representatives of the Computer Village business community welcomed the initiative. Speaking on behalf of the traders, Mr Ugochukwu Ekeh described the platform as a positive step and pledged cooperation. “We welcome this initiative and will comply fully,” he said, stressing the importance of collaboration between businesses and the council.
