Abuja: The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday sentenced Muhammad Sani, an associate of notorious bandit and arms supplier Danranmi, to 20 years’ imprisonment for concealing information that could have led to the fugitive’s arrest.
Justice Emeka Nwite convicted Sani following his prosecution by the Department of State Services (DSS) on terrorism-related charges.
The court sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment on each of Counts One and Two, without the option of a fine.
Justice Nwite ordered that the sentences should run concurrently, effective from Jan. 11, 2023, the date of Sani’s arrest.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the DSS arraigned Sani on a four-count charge bordering on terrorism-related offences.
According to the prosecution, Sani concealed information capable of leading to the arrest of Danranmi, a notorious bandit accused of supplying arms and ammunition to kidnappers and other criminal groups.
The offences are contrary to Section 26(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and punishable under Section 16(1)(b) of the same Act.
