Yobe Sets National Benchmark in Budgetary Excellence, Says Agora Policy Report

by TheDiggerNews

Damaturu, Yobe has emerged as the best budgetary performing state in the 2024 Agora Policy Annual Sub-national Performance Report.

Agora Policy is a Nigerian non-profit and policy think-tank with a focus on economic growth, development, democracy and good governance.

The state achieved the feat with an impressive score of 98.6 per cent, outpacing Delta and Rivers, which came second and third, respectively.

Reacting to the ranking, Gov. Mai Mala Buni attributed the feat to the state’s budgetary discipline and financial prudence.

In a statement by his Director-General Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the Governor said Yobe had consistently developed and implemented budgets that were in tune with the economic realities.

“We have also been guided by budgetary discipline, transparency and financial prudence in running the affairs of the state government.

“This recognition would spur us to continue to do more in budgetary discipline, due process and financial prudence,” he said.

The State Fiscal Transparency Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS), a World Bank programme, recently rated the state as the best in fiscal transparency and accountability.

Similarly, the Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative (PLSI), an internationally recognised civil society group, also ranked Yobe the best-performing state in transparency and accountability in public expenditure for 2023 and 2024.
