Abuja: The Nigerian Army says it has apprehended 53 suspected criminals and extremist group members in the last 24 hours during coordinated operations across Plateau State.
Troops under Operations Ensuring Peace (OPEP) carried out targeted raids in Barkin Ladi and Jos North Local Government Areas. In Barkin Ladi, Sector 4 troops stormed suspected drug hideouts in Angwan Yama and Kasua, arresting nine individuals with cannabis, mobile phones, and other items.
Around 1:30 a.m., Sector 1 troops — backed by Special Forces and the Department of State Services (DSS) — arrested 44 suspected members of the Sara Suka gang across multiple Jos North communities, recovering dangerous weapons.
Elsewhere, troops recovered four stolen cattle in Riyom and returned them to their owner. The Army also responded to communal clashes and militia attacks in Taraba and Benue States, recovering two corpses and investigating armed confrontations. One civilian injured in Guma, Benue, was evacuated for medical treatment.
Military officials reaffirmed their commitment to proactive operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks, protecting civilians, and restoring peace across the country.
