Lagos: On Good Friday, Rev. Fr. Jude Chikezie condemned ongoing killings and kidnappings by unpatriotic individuals, urging Nigerians to uphold the sanctity of human life.
He cited Jesus Christ’s sacrifice as a profound example, calling perpetrators to abandon violence and embrace peace.
Continuing his Good Friday message, Chikezie, who is in charge of the Holy Spirit Church, Onireke, Ojo, Lagos State, explained that the procession was organised by church members to mark the occasion and publicly reflect on the meaning of Christ’s suffering for mankind.
During this procession, he led the group through major streets in the area to the admiration of the residents, thereby further spreading his message.
This act was meant to identify with the sufferings of Jesus Christ, including His crucifixion at Calvary.
Building on the value of life, Chikezie said that Jesus Christ loved and valued humanity so much that He laid down His life to redeem mankind.
He further noted that Christ’s death was necessary for the reconciliation of man with God.
Chikezie thus emphasised that people are called to follow Christ’s example by exhibiting love and care for one another.
He concluded that Christ, through His death on the cross, demonstrated a model for daily living.
Similarly, at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tedi-Muwo, Ojo, Lagos, Rev. Fr. Anthony Thompson led members of the church in a procession through the area’s major streets. Thompson urged people to avoid actions contrary to Christ’s teachings.
Echoing this call, the cleric said that the Lenten season remained one of love, faith, sacrifice, compassion, and care for the poor. He stressed that Christians should seek forgiveness from God and others when needed.
