Benue Killings: Alia Condemns Attacks, Vows Justice for Victims

Makurdi: Gov. Hyacinth Alia condemned the brutal attack allegedly carried out by gunmen on Mbalom in Gwer-East Local Government Area.

His Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tersoo Kula, issued a statement in Makurdi on Sunday. The statement conveyed the governor’s reaction to the incident.

The attack occurred on Saturday evening, leaving more than nine people dead and several others injured.

Alia described the killings as deeply tragic and distressing, expressing sorrow for the pain inflicted on the community.

He expressed sympathy to the affected families. He assured them of government support during “this difficult and painful period.”

The governor voiced concern over what he perceived as a troubling pattern affecting parts of the state.

He emphasised that such acts bring pain to many and affirmed that efforts would continue to prevent further harm to communities in Benue.

Alia said his administration is resolved to tackle and eliminate all criminality threatening communities across the state.

He thanked security agencies, especially the police, for their prompt response. He praised their ongoing efforts.

The governor reassured residents that security forces are working diligently to bring those responsible to justice and support affected families.

He urged operatives to intensify efforts. He called for more measures to prevent further attacks and restore peace.

Alia said his administration is “fully committed to protecting lives and property.” He promised to leave no stone unturned in safeguarding citizens.

He said measures are being strengthened to improve intelligence gathering. He also aimed to enhance collaboration with stakeholders.

The governor urged residents to stay calm, vigilant, and law-abiding. He asked them to support security agencies with credible information.

He maintained that his government “will not waver in pursuit of peace, justice, and security for all.”
