Abuja: Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes assisted United’s first goal on Sunday against Brighton & Hove Albion to break the Premier League assist record.
Fernandes broke the club assists record when Patrick Dorgu headed home his corner kick in the 32nd minute of United’s 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion, marking Fernandes’s 21st assist of the season.
The previous record was shared by Arsenal’s Thierry Henry and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
They both registered 20 Premier League assists each: one in the 2002/03 season and the other in 2019/20.
Fernandes tied the record by assisting United’s third goal in their previous match against Nottingham Forest.
United added two more goals through Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes, finishing with a 3-0 away win.
After the game, Fernandes said joining Henry and De Bruyne in the assist record was special.
“It was already special, being in their (Henry and De Bruyne) company.
“We’re talking about two players who made the Premier League great and were among its greatest.”
The Portuguese playmaker finished the season with 21 assists and 9 goals, totalling 30 goal contributions for the Red Devils.
He was earlier named Premier League Player of the Season.
