Olubadan Raises Alarm on Security as Oyo Faces 2027 Elections

by Eniola Grace

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, warned that security should not be ignored as Oyo State gets closer to the 2027 elections.

Speaking from his home in Ibadan, he stressed that while voters will choose their leaders, keeping people safe is most important.

Ladoja, a former governor, noted that many candidates mention his name during their campaigns. He made it clear that winning elections depends on popularity and performance, not royal influence.

“If they find it meaningful, let them use my name to promote themselves. But the populace, not my name, will decide who rules them,” he said.

On the topic of security, the Olubadan called the recent kidnapping of 39 students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area very unfortunate.

He expressed confidence that the government and security agencies are working hard to free the victims, even if they do not share details with the public.

“Government and security agencies are trying their best. They just won’t tell you what they’re doing to secure the release of those abducted for security purposes,” he stated.

The monarch spoke out against land grabbing in Ibadanland, saying it is not acceptable in the city and warning that it threatens peace and order.

Ladoja’s main point is that Oyo’s future relies on both the choices voters make and how well institutions can keep people safe.
