Ghana and Togo have taken a big step toward a united, borderless Africa by allowing visa-free entry for all African nationals. Many people see this as an important milestone for real integration across the continent.
These changes, announced on Africa Day, have excited communities across Africa and among people of African descent worldwide. They offer a real step forward for Pan-African free movement.
Togo announced its visa-free policy at Biashara Afrika 2026 in Lomé. Now, African nationals with valid passports can visit Togo for 30 days without a visa, after filling out a simple online travel form.
Ghana has made a similar move, helping to strengthen the push for African unity through regional openness.
These steps support the African Union Protocol on the Free Movement of Persons, which is key to integration. The AU Commission praised Ghana and Togo’s “courageous leadership” and stressed that unity and economic growth depend on free movement.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat and Africa Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) endorsed the reforms, emphasising that visa-free travel is a practical basis for many Africans.
Travel is cheaper and easier, and there are more chances to connect with others across the continent. This makes the idea of unity feel more real. Make cohesion more tangible.
People on social media are showing strong support. Many Africans call this policy a big step for Pan-Africanism and unity, and they are urging other countries to follow Ghana and Togo’s example.
With more countries like Benin, Gambia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Seychelles embracing similar policies, the movement for a borderless, unified Africa is clearly accelerating and becoming a reality.
