Lagos: Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State said his administration was using innovative ideas to address housing challenges and improve residents’ access to decent and affordable homes.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by the state Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, made this known at the 75th World Congress of the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) on Tuesday in Lagos.
The event had the theme: “Global Real Estate Renaissance“.
The governor said the congress theme reflected the global shift in the real estate industry, adding that it was being driven by innovativeness, sustainability, and inclusive development.
He said that the Lagos State Government viewed housing as a shelter and a key driver of economic growth, job creation and social well-being.
“We have put in place a range of strategies to increase the supply of affordable housing, especially for low and middle-income residents,” Sanwo-Olu disclosed.
He said the government had made special budget allocations and created an enabling environment for the private sector to invest through public/private partnerships.
“So far, these efforts have led to the delivery of nearly 10,000 housing units in the last six years, and we aim to complete over 14,000 more by 2026,” he explained.
According to the governor, the goal is to provide homes, improve quality of life, create jobs, and boost the local economy.
He assured participants at the congress that Lagos remained open for investment and was committed to adopting global best practices to attract partnerships in housing and urban development.
The week-long event is taking place at the Eko Hotels and Suites, and stakeholders are discussing ways to drive real estate growth worldwide.
