Lagos: Bishop Charles Ighele, General Superintendent of Holy Spirit Mission, on Friday said that ending the killings in Benue would require strong government decisions.
Ighele spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on the recent killings in Benue.
The bishop, who sympathised with the Benue people on the killings, said that it was time to take strong decisions to end such killings in Benue and other parts of Nigeria.
According to him, specific problems require certain solutions.
” For example, the revival of the economy needs political and economic solutions.
“The absence of a culture of civilised behaviour among the people needs a social solution.
“The constant Benue killings and similar killings in other places need a political decision that can only be made by political leaders,” he said.
He said that a significant step in the right direction to ending the killings would be apprehending suspects and prosecuting them.
He said that religious bodies would need to pray that actions and decisions which would end the killings should be taken.
He added that religious organisations should offer humanitarian services to the survivors.
