Abuja: Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation Worldwide (NIDO-WW) have consoled compatriots at home and abroad over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Coordinating Chairman of NiDO-WW, Mr Chibuzo Ubochi, disclosed this in a statement IN DIASPORAissued on Sunday against the backdrop of Buhari’s passing.
Buhari died at the age of 82 on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a London hospital after a protracted illness.
Ubochi, also Chairman of NiDO Europe, described Buhari as a leader who had devoted his life to advancing the country’s growth.
“NiDO-WW joins all Nigerians at home and abroad to mourn the loss of a true patriot, a soldier and leader who devoted his life to the service of Nigeria.
“In 2023, President Buhari oversaw the peaceful transfer of power to another civilian administration, fulfilling a promise he made while in office and reinforcing Nigeria’s democratic consolidation.
“This singular act of handover deserves gratitude and respect. We honour the memory of a patriot, a disciplinarian and a democrat.
“To Nigerians in the diaspora, one of his enduring contributions was the assent to the NiDCOM Act, a watershed moment that affirmed our value in Nigeria’s governance.
“Since then, the diaspora has felt recognised, welcomed and included. Though he is gone, this legacy endures in the hearts of Nigerians in diaspora. Rest in peace, President Buhari,” Ubochi said.
NIDO-WW is an organisation that unites Nigerians in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, advocating for diaspora interests, supporting national development, and harnessing global expertise for a stronger Nigeria.
