Osogbo: The Osun Amotekun Corps has arrested a commercial motorcycle operator for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman at gunpoint.
This disclosure is contained in a statement by Osun Amotekun Corps spokesperson, Yusuf Abass, on Friday in Osogbo.
He alleged that the 29-year-old suspect, who is a commercial motorcycle operator, raped the woman in his residence at Alusekere Area of Ede.
He said the victim reported the incident to the Amotekun Corps, stating that the suspect lured her to his home under the pretext of helping her locate her missing ward.
“Upon her arrival, the suspect reportedly brandished a locally made pistol and a knife, using both weapons to intimidate and forcibly rape her,” he said.
Similarly, Abass said the Corps also arrested a bricklayer for vandalising and stealing electrical wires of an uncompleted building located at a new site in Osogbo.
He stated that the suspect, who works at the site, took advantage of his work opportunity to gain access to the building after the workday had closed.
“He is accused of carting away various electrical tools and wiring materials valued at ₦2.5 million,” he said.
In another development, a 23-year-old tailor from Kaduna, residing in the Sabo Area of Osogbo, was arrested for stealing household items.
He stated that the items stolen by the suspect included a flat-screen television, electrical cables, and two large standing fans, valued at ₦800,000.
He stated that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to having sold the items to a buyer identified as “Rilwan” in the same Sabo neighbourhood.
He stated that the suspect admitted to selling the television for ₦27,000 and the two standing fans for ₦30,000.
He said the Corps is investigating the said buyer for possible involvement in the broader theft and resale ring.
He, however, said all the arrested suspects had been handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
Abass said the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Chief Adekunle Omoyele, reiterated the agency’s commitment to ridding the state of criminals and ensuring the safety of residents.
