Ibadan: Key stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North are rallying behind calls for a transparent and credible primary election process to elect a candidate to fill the vacant House of Representatives seat for the Aug. 16 Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election.
It is recalled that Mr Olaide Akinremi, the member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, passed away on July 10, 2024, necessitating the conduct of a by-election.
This is contained in a communique issued after its emergency meeting on Saturday, July 19, held to review developments ahead of the upcoming inter-party by-election in the constituency.
The forum expressed concerns over the activities of the Delegates’ Congress Committee, which the party’s national executives constituted to conduct the primary.
The leaders firmly opposed any anti-democratic practices capable of undermining the primary’s credibility or jeopardising collective efforts toward victory in the forthcoming by-election.
They reiterated the need for a transparent, free, and fair primary that would reflect the true wishes of party members and gain the acceptance of all stakeholders involved.
The forum urged members to remain calm despite provocations and to continue working for the party’s success, dispelling rumours of bias or compromise among the apex leaders.
The leaders advised all the aspirants to avoid rancour and bitterness, but renew their confidence in the party’s capacity to uphold justice and fairness throughout the process.
The leaders reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty to the Constitution, values, and leadership of the APC at both the state and national levels.
They maintained their commitment to unity, peace, and the overall progress of the party in Ibadan North, as well as in Oyo State.
