Ile-Ife, Osun State: The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has called on the Osun State Police Command to intensify efforts in locating a female undergraduate who was declared missing last Thursday.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the University’s Public Relations Officer, the institution confirmed that Miss Dorcas Oseghale, a 300-level student of the Department of Chemistry, has not been seen since the evening of August 6, 2025.
Oseghale, whose matriculation number is CHM/2021/165, reportedly left her residence at Adesanmi House, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife, around 8:00 p.m. to buy food near the students’ village along Ede Road.
Her roommate, Miss Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice of the Department of Agricultural Extension, became concerned when she failed to return and was unreachable via phone.
According to Olarewaju, a report of her disappearance first surfaced on a student social media platform around 3:00 p.m. on August 7. The university’s security unit began monitoring the online conversation and received a formal report later that evening from a group of chemistry students, accompanied by Oseghale’s roommate.
“Given the complexity of the case and the limitations of our internal resources, the university security unit promptly escalated the matter to the Osun State Police Command,” Olarewaju stated.
He emphasised that the police possess the professional and technical expertise required to investigate the circumstances surrounding the student’s disappearance.
The Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Prof. Adebayo Bamire, commended the students for their vigilance and swift action in reporting the incident. He also appealed to law enforcement agencies to deploy all necessary resources to locate the missing student.
“The university community is deeply concerned, and we urge the police and other security agencies to do everything within their power to find Miss Oseghale,” Bamire said.
