The U.S. State Department has approved potential sales of arms and ammunition estimated at the cost of $346 million, the Pentagon said on Wednesday.

The weapons are Munitions: 1,002 MK-82 general-purpose 500 Ib bombs; Precision Bombs 1,002 MXU-650 Air Foil Groups for 500 Lb Paveway II GBU-12, 515 MXU-1006 AFGs for 250 Ib Paveway II GBU-58, and Precision Rockets: 5,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II (APKWS II) all-up-rounds

The contractors for the sales are Lockheed Martin, RTX Missiles and Defence, and BAE Systems, the statement said.

Washington described Nigeria as a strategic partner in West Africa, adding that the sale aligns with U.S. foreign policy and national security interests.
