Ilorin: In a bold stride toward educational reform, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in partnership with the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB), is set to train 790 Mathematics and Science teachers across the state’s 16 local government areas.
KWSUBEB Chairman, Prof. Shehu Adaramaja, stated on Wednesday that the 12-day capacity-building programme would involve 790 teachers from various schools across Kwara.
Adaramaja described the training as another milestone in improving teacher capacity at the basic education level in the state.
According to him, the training, tagged Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE), was approved by Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as part of education sector reforms.
He explained that the initiative aims to equip teachers with essential skills for better classroom performance, thereby raising the quality of foundational learning across the state.
Adaramaja disclosed that the training will run from September 1 to September 12, 2025, covering core teachers’ Cycle IV, local Cycle IV, and step training modules.
He emphasised that the selected teachers will be equipped with the necessary techniques to strengthen teaching and learning at the grassroots.
The Chairman reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continuous investment in teachers’ professional development.
He further revealed that another 795 teachers will later benefit from training in software development, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
According to him, the training sessions will be held at Bishop Smith and Queen Elizabeth schools in Ilorin, as well as across various Local Government Education Authorities.
