London: English League Cup holders Newcastle United will host third-tier Bradford City in the third round as they begin their title defence.

Newcastle, who ended a 70-year domestic trophy drought by beating Liverpool last season, received a bye into the third round with other European-qualified Premier League clubs.

Liverpool, last season’s runners-up, will play at home against Southampton in another all-top-tier fixture.

Manchester City travel to League One side Huddersfield Town, while Chelsea face Lincoln City and Arsenal visit Port Vale.

Fourth-tier Grimsby Town, who shocked Manchester United in the second round, will visit Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

Two all-Premier League ties feature Brentford hosting Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers playing Everton.

Other Premier League sides have drawn lower-league opposition, promising an open third round.

Third round draw:

Port Vale v Arsenal

Swansea City v Nottingham Forest

Lincoln City v Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur v Doncaster Rovers

Brentford v Aston Villa

Huddersfield Town v Manchester City

Liverpool v Southampton

Newcastle United v Bradford City

Sheffield Wednesday v Grimsby Town

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Everton

Crystal Palace v Millwall

Burnley v Cardiff City

Wrexham v Reading

Wigan v Wycombe

Barnsley v Brighton

Fulham v Cambridge

The third-round ties will be played during the weeks beginning Sept. 15 and Sept. 22.
