Abuja (Nigeria): A 27-year-old welder, Longji Emmanuel, was on Friday docked in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, for allegedly stealing his employer’s electrical wires worth N17.5 million
The police charged Emmanuel, who lives on Angwan Sarki Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road, Abuja, with theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Musa Omale, Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Idu Nairda Warehouse, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Aug. 9.
Nwachukwu told the court that on Aug. 9, the complainant discovered that some wires belonging to the company were missing from the warehouse.
She alleged that the defendant dishonestly stole various types of electrical cables worth N17.5 million.
The prosecutor said that during the police investigation and interrogation, the defendant allegedly made a confessional statement after all the aforementioned cables were recovered from him.
She informed the court that the defendant, however, could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.
Nwachukwu said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate Musa Jobbo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of 500,000 and one surety in like sum.
Jobbo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must produce a means of identification.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 22 for a hearing.
