Abuja, Nigeria: The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has launched a full-scale investigation into the national grid disturbance that occurred on Wednesday, disrupting electricity supply across multiple states.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:20 a.m., leading to widespread disruptions in power supply across the country.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Mr Abdu Bello, Managing Director of NISO, confirmed the development and assured the public that the root cause would be thoroughly examined.
“The outcome(s) of the investigation will determine the remedial and proactive actions to be taken to forestall future occurrences,” Bello said.
According to him, the disturbance was triggered by the tripping of a Generation Company (GenCo), which caused a significant load drop.
“This, in turn, led to a cascading effect on other GenCos, resulting in a system-wide disturbance.”
Bello stated that NISO began grid restoration efforts at 11:45 a.m., starting with power supply to Abuja from the Shiroro Power Plant.
He added that substantial restoration had already been achieved nationwide.
“We crave your indulgence to bear with us as restoration is still ongoing,” he appealed.
