Awka, Anambra State (Nigeria): In a bold move to accelerate infrastructure development across Anambra State, Governor Charles Soludo has approved contracts worth ₦43.7 billion for a wide range of capital projects.

Dr Law Mefor, the state Commissioner for Information, said that the decision was reached after the state Executive Council meeting in Awka on Tuesday.

He said that the approval covered key projects, including the dualisation of the Ekwulobia-Ufuma road with a bridge, for N37.95 billion awarded to Lebtech Construction Company Ltd.

Mefor said that N1.4 billion was allocated for the construction of the Adili/Park Road spur to the Nnewi building material market.

“Various smaller contracts for schools, medical equipment, airport VIP lounge, internal premises rehabilitation and government building upgrades were also awarded,” he said.

He said that due to the upcoming governorship election in the state, the government would not embark on any new projects but would continue to work on ongoing projects.

Mefor disclosed that the state government had promised that it would not owe contractors working in the state, which he said, had been a principle the governor had kept since assuming office.
